Ronnie Cummins – The Long March Against Monsanto: A Letter from The Hague

We are today in the midst of a battleground for two very different approaches to agriculture. One is the agro-ecological approach based on the use of open source traditional seeds based on biodiversity and living in harmony with nature. The other is the mechanistic world of an industrial system based on monocultures, one-way extraction and the use of pesticides, poisons and GMOs, where chemical cartels compete to take over our agriculture and food systems, destroying our ecosystems along the way.” ...

Monsanto claims its Roundup herbicide is safe.  But that is NOT TRUE.
Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, was declared a probable human carcinogen by the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Cancer Research in 2015.
Roundup and other glyphosate-based herbicides are extremely dangerous.  Yet unbelievably, profligate use of Roundup continues in parks and schools and public areas, along roadways, ...

PEOPLE’S ASSEMBLY – VERDICT: MONSANTO AND POISON CARTEL GUILTY OF CRIMES AGAINST THE PLANET AND HUMANITY

The Hague, 16 October 2016: Monsanto and the Poison Cartel are guilty of crimes against our planet and humanity. This is the verdict from the People’s Assembly organized in the Hague alongside the Monsanto Tribunal. The voices of the soil, of the seeds, of farmers, consumers, and of people from all over world converged and reverberated in a new unity across diversity. The poison making industry is destroying life on Earth, our health and our democracies. The Peoples assembly resolved ...

Kenya: Health secretary blocks planned testing of GMO maize

The article below reports that in Kenya, the health secretary has rejected a planned trial of GM maize, “dealing a big blow to scientists and global seed companies, who have been pushing for policy change on the controversial crop science”.

Note that this quote from Francis Karin, a senior research assistant at the Tegemeo Institute at Egerton University, is a piece of nonsense:

“If you look at the production of GM maize you will realise that they perform better than the ones ...

Ken Roseboro – Largest-ever study finds GM crops increased herbicide use by 28 percent

A new study has found that widespread adoption of genetically modified crops has increased the use of weed-killing herbicides as weeds become more resistant, while decreasing the use of insecticides.

University of Virginia economist Federico Ciliberto led the largest study of genetically modified crops and pesticide use to date, alongside Edward D. Perry of Kansas State University, David A. Hennessy of Michigan State University and GianCarlo Moschini of Iowa State University. The four economists studied annual data from more than ...

Courtney Sexton – 5 Actions You Can Take To Celebrate World Food Day

Wendell Berry once said “the Earth is what we all have in common.” It is one of my favorite quotes to return to when I’m getting down and out about the unrest in the world, and particularly, as of late, the extreme socio-political divisions here in the U.S. that have put many of us at odds with our neighbors. I often think about the many ways in which we all depend on the pale blue dot. During this ...

Maryam Henein – Monsanto-Bayer: The Year of Merging Dangerously

The Big Ag tech giants Monsanto — maker of Agent Orange, genetically modified seeds and weed-whacking chemicals — and Bayer — famed for manufacturing poison gas for  Nazi concentration camp use, heroin, baby aspirin and systemic pesticides — are merging. Food security advocates, consumers and non-zombies worldwide are deeply concerned.

CNN Money declared the Monsanto-Bayer merger “the year’s biggest takeover.” Symbolically, it’s the merger of the century. At $66 billion, it’s also the ...

Richard Gale and Dr. Gary Null – GMOs and the Mentality of Propaganda Control

Progressive Radio Network, October 10, 2016

The evidence for genetically modified organism (GMOs) safety for human consumption and its environmental risks remains one of the nation’s most contentious, controversial and debated subjects.  Throughout the world, governments, national health ministries and their populations have been led to believe that there is no reason to critically object to GMOs.  American mainstream media, which have now been fully absorbed into the agendas of large multinational corporate chemical and food sponsors, claim GMOs are ...

FDA Confirms Presence of Carcinogen in Baby Food

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has confirmed the presence of glyphosate in a variety of oat products, including oat cereals for babies.

Recently the USDA started testing U.S. foods for glyphosate, the active ingredient used in Monsanto’s Roundup and which has been linked to cancer. Last year the World Health Organization released a report by a group of international cancer experts that stated glyphosate is probably a human carcinogen.

Despite these recent findings, Roundup continues to be the most heavily ...

Winona LaDuke – Slow, Clean, Good Food

In an impressive fossil fuels travel day, I left the Standing Rock reservation and flew to Italy for the International Slow Food gathering known as Terra Madre. A world congress of harvesters, farmers, chefs and political leaders, this is basically the World Food Olympics. This is my fifth trip to Italy for Slow Food. I first went with Margaret Smith, when the White Earth Land Recovery Project won the Slow Food Award for Biodiversity in 2003, for our work to ...
