TERRY BURNHAM – Column: The stock market hates Trump’s economic policies

Most people see last week’s “Trump stock market rally” as an endorsement of the president’s economic policies. President Donald Trump has made exactly this claim: that the stock market’s rally was a validation of his decisions.

“We just hit a record, and a number that’s never been hit before,” Trump told ABC News in reference to the Dow hitting 20,000. “So I was very honored by that.”

Alena Sharoykina – Donald Trump and “Deep Ecology”. Pushing GMOs, Minimizing Environmental Protection

To put it mildly, Trump is famous for his skepticism on global climate change, which he has many times called “Chinese mystification,” and has confessed that he does not believe in the “human-caused nature of global warming,” and many of his teammates share these views.

Thus, Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt was nominated for the head of EPA, who is a tough critic of green economy and sued the Obama Administration regarding its Clean Energy Incentive Program for reducing greenhouse gases. ...

Chandra Muzaffar – Trump’s Entry Ban against Muslims: Linked To Global Warfare and The Neo-Con Agenda?

For many years, Clark and others have argued publicly that the targeted states were part of a neo-conservative agenda led by men like Dick Cheney, former US Vice-President, Donald Rumsfeld, former US Secretary of Defence, and Paul Wolfowitz, former US Deputy Secretary of Defence which sought to control and dominate WANA through the might of the US’s military power. Apart from serving the hegemonic interests of the US, the agenda was totally committed to enhancing Israel’s position in the region ...

Study: How climate change threatens mountaintops (and clean water)

Mountains are far more than rocks. About half of the world’s drinking water filters through their high-elevation forests, plants, and soils, among other natural benefits.

Now, a new first-of-its kind study, in the journal Nature, shows how these mountain ecosystems around the globe may be threatened by climate change.

Rising temperatures over the next decades appear likely to “decouple” key nutrient cycles in mountain soils and plants, an international team of sixteen scientists reports. This is expected to disrupt the function of ...

Trump likely to start rolling back regulations immediately

WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald Trump is expected to launch swiftly his administration’s deregulatory agenda, according to lobbyists who have discussed the matter with the transition team, affecting rules governing everything from investment advice to mortgage insurance and power-plant emissions.

Among Trump’s first acts as president Friday may be an order to federal agencies to temporarily cease ongoing rule-making initiatives, these people said. That would mirror steps taken by previous presidents entering the White House as one from the opposing political party leaves.

Chris Hedges – American Psychosis

Reality is under assault. Verbal confusion reigns. Truth and illusion have merged. Mental chaos makes it hard to fathom what is happening. We feel trapped in a hall of mirrors. Exposed lies are answered with other lies. The rational is countered with the irrational. Cognitive dissonance prevails. We endure a disquieting shame and even guilt. Tens of millions of Americans, especially women, undocumented workers, Muslims and African-Americans, suffer the acute anxiety of being pursued by a predator. All this is ...

ELLEN BROWN – How to Cut Infrastructure Costs in Half

President-elect Donald Trump has promised to rebuild America’s airports, bridges, tunnels, roads and other infrastructure, something both Democrats and Republicans agree should be done. The country needs a full $3 trillion in infrastructure over the next decade. The $1 trillion plan revealed by Trump’s economic advisers relies heavily on public-private partnerships, and private equity firms are lining up for these plumbing investments. In the typical private equity water deal, for example, higher user rates help the firms ...

Chelsea E Manning – Compromise does not work with our political opponents. When will we learn?

Barack Obama left behind hints of a progressive legacy. Unfortunately, despite his faith in our system and his positive track record on many issues over the last eight years, there have been very few permanent accomplishments.

This vulnerable legacy should remind us that what we really need is a strong and unapologetic progressive to lead us. What we need as well is a relentless grassroots movement to hold that leadership accountable.

On the night of ...
