MARK WEISBROT – Intel agencies ask Americans to ‘trust, don’t verify’ in new Cold War

Just as the first casualty of war is said to be the truth, the first casualty of the new Cold War is irony. Our most prominent journalists seem to have missed the Orwellian irony of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) asking Director of National Intelligence (DNI) James Clapper at Friday’s Senate hearings if Julian Assange has any credibility. Assange has maintained that the hacked or leaked emails of Democratic Party officials did not come from the Russian government, or ...

Chris Hedges – The Real Purpose of the U.S. Government’s Report on Alleged Hacking by Russia

Some thoughts on “Russia’s Influence Campaign Targeting the 2016 US Presidential Election,” the newly released declassified report from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

1. The primary purpose of the declassified report, which offers no evidence to support its assertions that Russia hacked the U.S. presidential election campaign, is to discredit Donald Trump. I am not saying there was no Russian hack of John Podesta’s emails. I am saying we have yet to see any ...

WAYNE MADSEN – CIA Meddles in US Election As it Has in Countless Foreign Polls

Never has the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency so blatantly involved itself in an American election. However, the agency has a rich history of interfering in the elections of other nations, including Russia. The conclusions of an undisclosed CIA secret report on alleged Russian interference in the U.S. election has been summarily dismissed by the Director of National Intelligence, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and several retired U.S. intelligence officers as deeply flawed and a propaganda tool concocted by the highly-politicized ...

Robert Parry – Details Still Lacking on Russian ‘Hack’

Amid more promises of real evidence to come, the Obama administration released a report that again failed to demonstrate that there is any proof behind U.S. allegations that Russia both hacked into Democratic emails and distributed them via WikiLeaks to the American people.

The New York Times, which has been busy flogging the latest reasons to hate Russia and its President Vladimir Putin, asserted, “The F.B.I. and Department of Homeland Security released a report on Thursday detailing the ways that ...

James Clapper: John Brennan is Fired, the CIA Report is Rescinded, the Russians Did Not “Hack” the Election

As suggested to Jim Clapper via email.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Office of the Director of National Intelligence

I have demanded the resignation of John Brennan and I am officially rescinding the CIA report on Russian interference in the US election. The CIA has no sources worthy of consideration, and their analysis is without foundation.

There is no question but that the Russians – as well as the Chinese, French, Germans, Israelis, and many others – have been doing cyber-espionage against all US institutions, including ...

Marc Ash – A Constitutional Crisis Is Brewing

The Russian election interference issue is heating up quickly. A lot of very powerful Congressional leaders, both Democrats and Republicans, are taking quite seriously the CIA’s findings that Russia deliberately influenced the recently concluded U.S. presidential election.

Leaving aside for the moment serious concerns about the CIA’s ability to be a fair broker of public information, in addition to the U.S. government’s own record on effecting regime change, often through unilateral military action, Russian involvement in the outcome of the ...

John Nichols - The Koch Brothers’ Favorite Congressman Will Be in Charge of the CIA

In the “Republican Wave” election of 2010, when brothers Charles and David Koch emerged as defining figures in American politics, the greatest beneficiary of Koch Industries largess was the newly elected Congressman Mike Pompeo. Since his election, Pompeo has been referred to as the “Koch Brothers’ Congressman” and “the congressman from Koch.”

Pompeo, who on Friday accepted President-elect Donald Trump’s invitation to take over as director of the Central Intelligence Agency, is a foreign-policy hawk who has ...

Jon Lee Anderson – DOES HENRY KISSINGER HAVE A CONSCIENCE?

Last March, when President Obama travelled to Argentina to meet with the country’s new President, Mauricio Macri, his public appearances were dogged by protesters who noisily demanded explanations, and apologies, for U.S. policies, past and present. There are few countries in the West where anti-Americanism is as vociferously expressed as in Argentina, where a highly politicized culture of grievance has evolved in which many of the country’s problems are blamed on the United States. On the left, especially, there is ...

Tyler Durden – Shocking Report Finds U.S. Military Consistently “Distorted, Suppressed, Or Substantially Altered” ISIS-Related Intel

Last week the U.S. House of Representatives Joint Task Force released their initial findings on the intelligence analysis of the U.S. Military’s Central Command (CENTCOM).  The report found that, among other things, CENTCOM leaders “distorted, suppressed, or substantially altered analytic products” to paint U.S. efforts to combat ISIS in a more positive light.  Moreover, 50% of analysts within CENTCOM said that the “procedures, practices, processes and organizational structures hampered objective analysis” while another 40% said they had experienced attempts to “distort or suppress intelligence” within ...

Supreme Court Quietly Approves Rule to Give FBI ‘Sprawling’ Hacking Powers

The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday quietly approved a rule change that would allow a federal magistrate judge to issue a search and seizure warrant for any target using anonymity software like Tor to browse the internet.

Absent action by U.S. Congress, the rule change (pdf) will go into effect in December. The FBI would then be able to search computers remotely—even if the bureau doesn’t know where that computer is located—if a user has anonymity ...
