Cari Romm – Doctors Found a Tiny Second Brain Growing Inside This Woman’s Tumor

Here’s a horrifying little story to kick off your weekend: A 16-year-old girl in Japan recently had a tumor surgically removed from her ovary — and when her doctors split it open, they found a tiny brain growing inside.

To be more specific, they found “clumps of greasy, matted hair inside, and a 3-centimetre-wide brain-like structure covered by a thin plate of skull bone,” New Scientist reported. In a Continue Reading →

David Edwards – Social Security Takes Disabled Woman’s Money Over Free Baseball Tickets

The Social Security administration said that it will take money from a disabled Missouri woman after she accepted free tickets to a baseball game.

Joyce Jeter told WDAF that she has an incurable disease called neurofibromatosis. The disease causes tumors to appear on her body. Her leg had to be amputated after one tumor tested positive for cancer.

“I’m in constant pain all the time,” Jeter noted. “It prevents me from doing some things.”

She said that people have mocked and bullied her because ...

Studies Link Cancer Patients’ Survival Time To Insurance Status

Privately insured people with cancer were diagnosed earlier and lived longer than those who were uninsured or were covered by Medicaid, according to two recent studies.

In one study, researchers examined data from more than 13,600 adult patients who had glioblastoma multiforme, the most common type of malignant brain tumor, between 2007 and 2012. The other study analyzed data from more than 10,200 adults who were diagnosed with testicular cancer between 2007 ...

David Beasley – Brain Cancer Is Now The Deadliest Form Of Cancer For Children

ATLANTA (Reuters) – Brain cancer is now the deadliest form of childhood cancer in the United States, surpassing leukemia as treatment advances have allowed doctors to cure many blood-relatedcancers, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention saidon Friday.

In 1999, nearly one in three children who died of cancer had leukemia, while brain cancer caused the deaths of one in four.

By 2014, the numbers had reversed, researchers found comparing death rates from pediatric cancers in these years.

New study shows a child’s brain absorbs twice as much cell phone radiation versus adults

A recently published study shows that a child’s brain can absorb twice as much cell phone radiation as that of an adult. It confirms that cell phone radiation is absorbed deeper into children’s brains than previous outdated cell phone test methods have suggested.

The world now has more than 7 billion cell phones. Given the links between cell phone radiation and a number of serious diseases like brain tumors, cancer and cardiovascular disease, it’s almost unimaginable to think that the cell phone test ...

Study: Cellphone Use ‘Triples Brain Tumor Rates’

Did you ever wonder how a cell phone might affect your brain? When you think about it, the use of cell phones is massively experimental, as we had no idea what kind of negative effects they might have on people when they were first introduced. Well now, decades after heavy use of cell phones, a study shows that brain tumor rates nearly triple after 25 years of cell phone use.

The Swedish study, published in the journal Pathophysiology, found ...

What ‘runners’ high’ tells us about drug addiction

The pleasure and reward centers of the brain are activated similarly by dangerous drugs as well as by exercise, which is why therapies to treat drug addiction often include lots of exercise.

Scientists say activating these pleasure and reward receptors in the brain could provide the “reward” of dangerous drugs without having to consume those drugs.

The team at the University of Missouri selectively bred rats that exhibited traits of either extreme activity or extreme laziness. The researchers then gave chemicals to ...

New Study Reveals What 15 Minutes On Your Cell Phone Actually Does To Your Brain

A common trend in recent human history is this: we think something isn’t harmful, but find out it really is years after its introduction into the global marketplace. Cigarettes are the most obvious example, but the use of cell phones may very well become just as vilified.

We now live in an era where children born today are introduced to cell phones and other electronics almost instantly, and the very first cell phone generation is now reaching adulthood. They haven’t been around long enough ...
